Port Fourchon Executive Board Elected
(GALLIANO, LA, FEBRUARY 14, 2007) – At the February 14, 2007 Board Meeting, the Commissioners elected a new Executive Board. The Board elected Larry Griffin as President, Donald Vizier as Vice President, Wilbert Collins as Secretary and Johnny Melancon, Sr. as Treasurer. All of the members of the new Executive Board have served as a Commissioner for numerous years and have been on the executive board in the past.
Larry Griffin, new Port Commission President has served as a commissioner for the past 14 years. Griffin said, “It is an honor and a pleasure to be elected as the President of this Commission. I would like to thank my fellow commissioners for electing me for this important position.”
Griffin continues, “This Port is a well oiled machine – we have a dedicated staff and Mr. Falgout does a wonderful job as Port Director. I look forward to working with the Commissioners and staff over the next 3 years to help further the growth of the Port.”
Donald Vizier, Vice President, has been the President of the Commission for the last 3 years and a commissioner for 18 years. Vizier decided to step down as President to allow someone else have a chance at the position. Vizier said, “Although I am stepping down as president, I am committed to helping this Port have even greater successes into the future.”
Wilbert Collins, Secretary has never held an executive position on the Board but has been a commissioner for 7 years. “I am excited to be a part of the executive team. Foremost, I would like to thank the community for electing me as a commissioner, and I am eager to serve on the Executive Board.”
Johnny Melancon, Sr, Treasurer has been a commissioner for 12 years and has been treasurer for the last 3 years. “As Treasurer, I hope to use my business experience to continue assisting in the financial matters of the Port.”
The Port Commissioners are elected for 6 year terms by the citizens of the 10th ward of Lafourche Parish. The executive board is elected by the commissioners every 3 years.
