Fourchon Beach to Open
(GALLIANO, LA, JULY 2, 2007) –The Fourchon Beach west of Pass Fourchon will be opened to public vehicular access on Tuesday, July 3 beginning at 3 p.m. Access will be across Fourchon Bridge, take a right on to the Chevron access road, across Pass Fourchon, then left to the beach.
The temporary access involves cooperation between the Greater Lafourche Port Commission and the Edward Wisner Trust. The Port Commission, Lafourche Parish Government and others are working towards a long term solution for public access to the beaches of Lafourche Parish. This temporary access will allow the public to drive their vehicles onto the beach and to the west.
The hurricanes of 2005 damaged the beach to a point where it was unable to be opened last year. “We are excited that we were able to work out an arrangement that would allow the public to have vehicular access to Fourchon Beach for the fourth of July as it has had for so many years in the past,” said Ted Falgout, Port Director.
Falgout added, “Landowners have a legitimate concern about damage, and it is extremely important that the public respect this beach which includes keeping it free of debris and trash and keeping off the fragile dunes.” Beachgoers are also cautioned about the possibility of rip-tides developing in the area.
