Commission Awards Contract to Fix Bridge to Beach
(GALLIANO, LA, JUNE 2, 2006) – The Greater Lafourche Port Commission conducted a special meeting recently in order to expedite the award of a $690,000 contract to fix hurricane damage to the Fourchon Bridge. Centaur, LLC from Laplace was the low bidder and repair is expected to take approximately 90 days.
According to Port Director Ted Falgout, “The bridge foundation experienced excess scouring as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Because of this, beach repairs have been delayed and access for public vehicles has remained closed.” Falgout added. “The Commission is very sensitive to getting the beach area re-opened to vehicles, but unfortunately it will most likely be September before repairs are complete.”
FEMA is paying 90 percent of the repairs.
