Special Election to be Held
(GALLIANO, LA) – A special election will be held for Board of Commissioners of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, Seat G, to fill the vacancy created by the October 18, 2010 death of John J. Melancon, Sr., according to the following dates:
Qualifying period for candidates: February 9 – 11, 2011
Special Primary Election: April 2, 2011
Special General Election, if necessary: April 30, 2011
Port Commissioners are elected for six-year terms by the citizens of the 10th ward of Lafourche Parish. The winner of this election will hold Seat G for the remainder of the board’s term through 2012.
John Melancon, Jr., was temporarily appointed to the Board until a special election could be held.
