Port Commission Assists Terrebonne Parish Repair Levees

(GALLIANO, LA, OCTOBER 3, 2005) The Greater Lafourche Port Commission has put port projects on hold to assist Terrebonne Parish Levee District by allowing them to use our excavator for emergency repairs to levees in Terrebonne Parish.

“I am extremely grateful to the Port Commission for allowing us to use their equipment to fix the breach in the levee in Montegut over the weekend,” said Reggie Dupre, Louisiana State Senator for District 20, “It was a lifesaver.” Southeast winds that came in over the last few days caused water to top the levee that had already been sandbagged in Montegut. “Repair the repair”, said Senator Dupre.

The Port Commission’s excavator will be used over the next few weeks for other emergency repairs to the levees in Terrebonne parish. The other organizations that have loaned their equipment to Terrebonne Parish to help repair levees are North Lafourche Levee District and the Lafourche Basin Levee District.
