Tuesday, July 9, 2019
4:15 p.m.

GLPC continues to monitor weather reports, as the potential for a tropical disturbance to develop in the Gulf of Mexico this week has slightly increased. There is now a 70% chance of development in the next 48 hours and an 80% chance of development within the next five days. Port Fourchon businesses and coastal residents should be alert, but not alarmed, and monitor communications for updates and warnings.

POSSIBLE IMPACTS IN THE PORT FOURCHON AREA
(Per National Weather Service update on 7/09/2019 @ 3:00 PM)

  • Due to the large uncertainty of the strength and movement of the system, it is too soon to say what specific impacts it may have on the local area. Confidence on storm strength and movement remains LOW at this time.
  • RAINFALL: Rainfall totals of 3 to 8 inches are possible through Monday, with a high chance of locally higher amounts. Coastal Flooding may become an issue as well later on this week.
  • TIDES: Higher than normal tides possible, depending on the eventual track, size, and strength of the system.
  • WINDS: Gusty winds possible, depending on the eventual track, size, and strength of the system.
  • ROADWAYS: No closures anticipated at this time, but the potential is there.
